Barts Square

London
Sheppard Robson

Percivall House is part of Barts Square, an extensive development project in the heart of London designed by Sheppard Robson for Helical. The project covers an area of 3.2 hectares and is located between Smithfield and the Museum of London. It comprises 236 flats, 22,000 square metres of office space and 2,000 square metres of retail space arranged around landscaped gardens and a pedestrianised area. The new buildings offer a contemporary reinterpretation of the existing structures, based on historic plot widths and the architectural qualities of the surviving historic buildings. Strategic changes to the street pattern create a permeable urban neighbourhood that is balanced, welcoming and safe. A collaborative approach creates a natural, unforced diversity, with architects Maccreanor Lavington and Piercy & Company designing the facades of two buildings and Gross.Max providing a measured, restrained landscape design. Care and attention to detail at every scale characterise this extensive project.

Percivall House itself features a facade of rich dark red to blue-brown bricks, referencing the bricks of the church of St Bartholomew the Great and providing a marked contrast to the pale brickwork of the neighbouring Levett Building.
